Reading books in the ZHB
The ZHB has about 260 thousand books.
You can read these books in the library.
You do not need a library card to do so.
There are also many journals, magazines and databases.
The databases contain electronic media.

How do you find the books and media?
The ZHB has a catalog and a discovery system.
These are both book and media directories on a computer.
You can search for books and media in the media directories on a computer.
Staff at the information desk will help you with your search.

Would you like to borrow media and books from our library?
To do so, you will need a library card.
A library card is free.
There are library cards for students.
There are also cards for faculty and guests.
Faculty are people who, for example:
- prepare and follow up on lectures
- give lectures
How do you get a library card for the ZHB?
You can register online using the registration form in the library.
The registration form is not written in easy-to-read language.
After you have registered, you can pick up your library card in 2 days.
Please come to the service desk to do so.
The service desk is on the ground floor.
You will receive your library card from the staff at the service desk.
Please bring your ID card or student ID with you.
You must agree to the ZHB’s rules in order to register.

How long is the library card valid?
The student library card is valid for 3 years.
After that, you must return the library card or renew it.
The library card for faculty and guests is valid for 1 year.
After that, you must return the library card or renew it.
Library cards are renewed at the service desk by staff members.
Please bring your ID card or student ID with you for this.
How can I borrow media and books?
Loan terminals are available on the ground floor.
Loan terminals are devices where you can borrow media and books.
You must return the media and books after 4 weeks.
Reference books, journals and magazines must be returned after 1 day.
This is called a short-term loan.
How can you return media and books?
You can return media and books at the return shelf.
The screen of the return shelf will show you which media and books you have returned.
You can do this during the ZHB’s opening hours.
Is there a fee for late returns?
Yes, you have to pay a fee if you return items late.
You will be automatically notified by email of the amount you owe.
You must pay the fee in cash at the service counter.
You cannot pay with a debit or credit card.
Can I borrow media and books for longer?
Yes, but you’ll need to renew the loan period.
You can do this online via your user account.
Then you can keep the media and books for 4 more weeks.
Interlibrary Loan
You can order books and media that the ZHB does not have.
The books and media will then be delivered from other libraries.

The password is your date of birth without periods.
